It sounds like Shroud is having a little bit of difficulty transitioning to a new esports title. In fact, the former Twitch star that recently unretired to join Sentinels, flat out said that VALORANT is a more difficult game than CS:GO.
This actually contradicts the viewpoint he had back in 2020. Two years ago, he said VALORANT was the easier game to play because the maps contained fewer distractions and the game had a lower skill ceiling. But now, after unretiring, joining Sentinels’ VALORANT team, and streaming the game for more than a thousand hours, it looks like Michael Grzesiek has had a change of heart.
During a July 23rd stream, after getting owned by a random player (as Dot Esports puts it), Shroud said, “this game is hard. CS:GO looks like a joke compared to this game, I’m telling you. There’s no sugarcoating it or anything. This game is just hard.”
“I wonder if it’s hard because everyone is so good, and everyone is so good because the game is arguably easier,” he continued. “Maybe that’s why it’s harder. It keeps the competition high.”
So, while he still believes VALORANT is the more user-friendly game, it’s clear that Shroud has had a pretty difficult time trying to find success against other actual gamers. We’ll soon find out just how good Shroud is at the game when he takes part in the VALORANT Champions Tour Last Chance Qualifier tournament on August 1st.
The Profit‘s Take:
The headline is somewhat misleading. He used to say that the skill ceiling for CS:GO was higher. Now he has refined that statement. Shroud believes that the lower skill ceiling in competitive VALORANT means competition is much fiercer because everyone can be “max skill” at the pro level. That makes it more difficult to find success. I think VALORANT’s lower skill ceiling is the reason why the game will struggle to replace CS:GO as the king of first-person shooters.
