Chipotle launched a new game called Buy The Dip, which gave players the chance to win $200,000 in crypto like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche, and Dogecoin, along with other prizes like guacamole and queso. The giveaway mirrors a similar stunt last year where Chipotle gave away $100,000 through the game BurritosOrBitcoin, which let people guess a code for the chance to win a free burrito or bitcoin.
“We certainly want to cement ourselves with fandom from the newest generation of both Gen Z and beyond and people who are tech-savvy and digitally savvy,” said Chris Brandt, Chief Marketing Officer for Chipotle.
True to those words, Chipotle is now accepting cryptocurrency as payment. In June, the company partnered with digital payments platform Flexa to let people buy food with crypto.
Even with the crypto market trending down, Chipotle still had a successful campaign with Buy the Dip. The company apparently had their doubts, but was still able to bring it all together.
“Even though the market has gone up or down, the idea that we’re still talking about crypto is a pretty big win,” said Brandt. “Certainly there are people that think it’s some kind of Ponzi scheme, but there’s a lot of utility for it and clearly there’s still a lot of interest.”
