A Significant Number Of Peruvians See Gaming As A Business Opportunity

A study was recently conducted by Apdev (the Peruvian Association of Electronic Sports and Video Games). According to this report, 50% of gamers in Peru use gaming as a way to meet new friends and form new relationships. Also, 14.3% of those surveyed said they play video games to develop new skills.

That wasn’t the only interesting finding from this study. In fact, the research shows that a large number of Peruvian gamers are interested in dedicating their lives to professional esports. Of the 1,000 people surveyed by Apdev between the ages of 16 and 36, 28.6% said they play video games with the hope of going pro in the future.

Meanwhile, 7.1% of Peru’s gamers play video games in order to “capitalize on their talent.” As pointed out by Mariano Tapia, the President of Apdev, this indicates that 7% of Peruvians hope to become paid content creators.

“They seek to have a consolidated audience, have interesting numbers, and then offer their platforms, social networks, and streaming to the different brands that they can sponsor, whether they are endemic or non-endemic brands,” Tapia said. “That would be the main source of income, promoting products or services.”

According to a 2019 report from Newzoo, Peru ranked 49th in the world in terms of gamers in the country with 8 million people. Since that study came out three years ago, it’s certainly possible that number has increased.
