Microsoft Is Making Some Bold Claims About Its Competitors

Microsoft is claiming that Sony and Nintendo will “remain the biggest” players in the “traditional gaming” space, even after the company closes its acquisition of Activision-Blizzard. This comes after Microsoft launched a new website to highlight the benefits of this deal.

The website lays out how the merger of Activision-Blizzard and Microsoft would benefit the gaming industry as a whole. The site specifically says that this potential deal would create “greater competition in traditional gaming, where Sony and Nintendo will remain the biggest.”

“Giving players choice in how they play their games makes gaming more accessible and leads to larger, more vibrant communities of players,” said Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. “Choice is equally important to developers. Developers benefit from having a diversity of distribution and business models for their games. Choice unlocks opportunities for innovation and enables the industry to grow.”

Microsoft also believes that this merger will be a good thing for gamers and game creators. The company claims that gamers would be given a “choice in how and where” they would be able to buy their games. Additionally, the website said developers would have “more ways to get games in front of more players through support, investment, and better access.”

On September 30th, European antitrust regulators announced they would make a decision on November 8th regarding Microsoft’s proposed deal to acquire Activision-Blizzard. If approved, the technology giant would purchase the game maker for almost $70 billion.
