Esports’ Popularity Is Growing In Brazil

The recently released Game Brasil 2022 Survey (PGB 2022), the popularity of esports is on the rise in South America’s biggest country. According to this study, 81.2% of gamers in the country have heard of esports, a 16.9% increase from last year.

Despite the increased awareness of esports, not as many people are interested in actually following the competitive scene. Roughly 63% of Brazilian gamers actively follow esports competitions.

“Esports has definitely been gaining more space in the routine of Brazilian gamers, becoming an increasingly popular entertainment,” said Carlos Silva, the Head of Gaming at Go Gamers. “The numbers indicate that, despite the pandemic period having increased the visibility of the modality last year, which can be attributed to social isolation, electronic sports continue to attract the attention of players, even after the end of the restrictive measures.”

The study also indicated that esports play a role in the daily lives of Brazilian citizens. 17.6% of responders said they consume esports content daily. That number jumps to 24.9% when it comes to people that engage with esports-related content at least twice a week.
