Splatoon 3 has easily been the best-selling video game in Japan since its release. According to Famitsu, the third-person shooter game sold 2.7 million boxed copies in Japan during the month of September. Since only 3.9 million physical copies of video games were sold in Japan last month, that means Splatoon 3 accounted for almost 69% of all physical video game sales in the country during September.
This comes after a record-setting launch in Japan following the game’s release on September 9th. According to sales data from Nintendo, over 3.45 million digital and physical copies of Splatoon 3 were sold in Japan the week the game was released. This was easily able to beat the previous record-holder in Japan: Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Splatoon 3 is the sequel to Splatoon 2, and, as the name suggests, the third video game in the Splatoon series. Since the franchise was launched in 2015, over 21 million Splatoon games have been sold worldwide.
