The Mortal Kombat video game series will reportedly be getting a new installment. Recently, Warner Bros. Games announced it will be coming out with Mortal Kombat: Onslaught next year.
This is expected to be a new mobile entry in the long-running fighter game series. The game is once again being developed by NetherRealm Studios.
Unlike other games in the series, Onslaught will offer “the first mobile-exclusive cinematic story experience for the franchise.” Additionally, Onslaught will allow players to “build a team of fighters from a vast roster of characters – and unleash them in massive real-time group battles to stop a dark and dangerous threat from wreaking havoc across the realms”.
“We are pushing the boundaries of Mortal Kombat to allow players to experience the franchise in new ways, while still staying true to its core visceral nature,” said NetherRealm’s chief creative officer, Ed Boon.
This will be the first Mortal Kombat mobile game to come out since 2015. Warner said that the last mobile game in the series, Mortal Kombat Mobile, has reportedly amassed over 150 million installations since its release.
