It doesn’t sound like everybody is thrilled with Xbox. In fact, a senior developer at Rocksteady Studios recently said in a Twitter post that the Xbox Series S has “hamstrung” an entire generation of video games.
Originally, Gotham Knights dev Fleur Marty explained the game would not feature a performance mode (a game mode that sacrifices resolution and graphics for frame rates). As a result, Gotham Knights would only support 30fps frame rates on console devices.
This decision was met with a lot of backlash, specifically from Rocksteady senior character technical artist Lee Devonald. Devonald explained that hardware has led to numerous issues, going so far as to say that the Xbox Series S GPU is optimized “for the lowest performer.”
“We have a current-gen console that’s not much better than a last-gen one,” he wrote. He also said that there is an “entire generation of games, hamstrung by that potato,” and that Microsoft “won’t let you launch on one without the other.”
Gotham Knights is an action role-playing game that came out on October 21st, 2022. That title is available on PS5s, the Xbox Series X|S, and Windows devices.
