The Witcher Is Getting A Remake!

On October 26th, it was announced that CD Projekt Red would be remaking the original Witcher game on Unreal Engine 5 as part of a joint collaboration with developer Fool’s Theory. This is one of five new video game projects that were recently unveiled by CDPR. Prior to this official announcement, the game was going by the codename Canis Majoris.

The company has already said this game will be a true remake that will see The Witcher “rebuilt from the ground up.” The game is currently in its early development stages, so we shouldn’t expect any updates for quite some time. In fact, CD Projekt Red said in an announcement tweet, “we want to do this right, so please be patient – it’s gonna be a while until we can share more details.”

The Witcher remake will actually mark the first time that CDPR will be working with a third-party developer. Since being established in 2015, Fool’s Theory has worked on several games including Baldur’s Gate Three, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, and Outriders.

The first game in The Witcher series came out in 2007, so it makes sense that the remake would be announced on October 26th because that marks the 15th anniversary of the original game’s release. Hopefully, 15 years of technological advancements will give us an even better game than the original.
