On October 18th, the Mayor of London (Sadiq Khan) announced that he would be committing over $1.14 million to Games London, the city’s program that aims to support the video game industry. This funding, which comes from the Greater London Authority, will support Games London for the next three years.
According to a press release, Games London is expected to generate over $48 million for the video games industry. On top of that, the program aims to add over 270 jobs to the gaming space by 2025.
Thanks to this recent influx of money, Games London was able to confirm the upcoming London Games Festival 2023. That event will begin on March 29th, 2023 and run through April 8th, 2023.
“London’s thriving games industry is a real success story, bringing significant investment and jobs to our capital,” Khan said. “We are home to the largest group of games studios in Europe and I’m proud to be providing more than $1.1 million to open up more opportunities for growth, talent development, and skills for young Londoners. I am also delighted that London Games Festival will return in 2023, shining a spotlight on innovative start-ups and promoting opportunities for Black, Asian, and minority ethnic talent, showcasing yet again how we are building a better London for everyone through creativity, business, and innovation.”
Games London was founded in 2015. Since then, the organization has generated over $85.9 million for the games industry while also creating over 700 jobs.
