Modern Warfare II Is Already A Billion Dollar Game

On November 7th, Activision-Blizzard announced that the latest installment in the COD series (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II) had crossed the $1 billion sales threshold just ten days after the game’s global release on October 28th. This breaks the franchise’s previous record which was set by Call of Duty: Black Ops II in 2012. That game needed 15 days to make $1 billion.

According to a press release, player engagement has soared with Modern Warfare II since the game has already logged over 200 million hours of play as well as more than a billion matches across PC and console devices. Besides having the best launch in COD history, it has also emerged as the highest-grossing entertainment opening of the year.

“The incredible momentum driving Modern Warfare II is a direct reflection of the energy and passion of the Call of Duty community,” said Johanna Faries, the General Manager of Call of Duty. “As we look ahead to an unprecedented level of support for Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0’s launch next week, we are motivated to deliver again for the best player community in the world.”

For those of you that didn’t know Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, the franchise’s upcoming free-to-play game, will be released on November 16th. In the meantime, Modern Warfare II is available now on PlayStation 4s and 5s, the Xbox Series X and S, Xbox Ones, and PCs.
