Yahoo recently published its 2022 Japan Search Awards list, which analyzes the most searched terms on Yahoo throughout the year. As it turns out, Splatoon 3 was the most searched video game in Japan this year.
Coming in second place on the list was Pokémon Legends: Arceus followed by Elden Ring in third place. Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel placed fourth with Dragon Quest X coming in fifth place.
Several other notable games made their way into the top ten. Kirby and the Forgotten Land was the seventh most searched video game in Japan this year. Gran Turismo 7 and Pokémon Scarlet rounded out the list in ninth and tenth place respectively.
Splatoon 3 was one of the best-selling video games in Japan since its release. According to Famitsu, the third-person shooter sold 2.7 million boxed copies in Japan in September. Since only 3.9 million physical copies of video games were sold in Japan during that month, that means Splatoon 3 accounted for almost 69% of all physical video game sales in the country during September.
