Esports will be making its debut as a medal event at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games. This comes after the medal events were welcomed by Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) member federations.
“The partnership between the AESF and the Olympic Council of Asia further legitimizes esports globally and provides the athletes and the fans the support they deserve,” said the president of the Saudi Arabian Federation for Electronic and Intellectual Sports (SAFEIS). “By becoming an official medal event, it will provide young athletes and esports enthusiasts with sustainable career paths in the venerated Olympic sphere.”
The 2022 Asian Games are expected to take place in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. The events are scheduled to begin on September 10th, 2022 and will run through the 25th.
