Piepacker, a new, free-to-play social esports platform that allows users to play retro video games, officially launched its Kickstarter campaign on April 20th. The company started the project in hopes of raising $75,000.
“Wouldn’t it be nice to bring back the good old days of couch multiplayer games but online? Friends and family, all together, sitting -virtually- next to each other, laughing and competing on great retro games,” it reads on the company’s Kickstarter page. “Piepacker is a new multiplayer gaming platform to play retro games with friends on your web browser. It comes with a constantly growing pre-built catalog of more than 60 awesome retro games from the NES to the PlayStation 1. To make the online living room experience complete, we included a video chat to see and talk to the people you are playing with.”
As of 1:15 PM EST on April 22nd, Piepacker has raised over $97,000 from over 544 donors, exceeding their goal by over $22,000. The funding for the project is scheduled to close Friday, May 21st, 2021 at 5:59 PM EST.
