McAfee Offering Free Gamer Security Program

On May 3rd, computer security company McAfee announced it will offer new and existing users McAfee Gamer Security for free. The subscription service that is being offered runs for one year.

“We knew that it was imperative that we meet PC gamers where they are as tech-savvy, performance-centric individuals. They know that they need online protection, but aren’t willing to compromise their experience for it,” said Baker Nanduru, the Head of Consumer Products at McAfee. “Consumers are looking to gaming as a release from everyday stresses, and McAfee is giving them one less thing to worry about. With this new offering of McAfee Gamer Security, our greater U.S. customer base can enjoy a smoother, safer gaming experience.”

There are many benefits to a McAfee Gamer Security subscription. The security program will offer low-impact security that doesn’t constantly bother gamers. A game mode will provide upgraded performance for users. Plus, real-time monitoring provides constant protection from malicious programs and software.

The McAfee Corporation was established by company founder John McAfee in 1987. The company was eventually bought out by Intel in February of 2011.

The Profit‘s Take:

It used to be that no self-respecting gamer would ever install a McAfee product on their PC because of the performance hit. With security an ever-increasing issue, I wonder if McAfee can actually make a product that gamers will welcome and accept the trade-offs involved.
