Electronic Arts Acquires Metalhead Software

On May 5th, it was announced that Electronic Arts had officially acquired Canadian gaming studio Metalhead Software. The organization is being brought in to continue developing the Super Mega Baseball franchise while helping EA in other sports video gaming ventures.

“We’re all players of Super Mega Baseball, and we’ve long admired the work of the Metalhead team,” said EA Sports executive vice president Cam Weber. “It’s a unique and beloved franchise among sports gamers – the balance and depth of gameplay, and the unique style of the content makes it super fun to play with friends. We look forward to supporting and investing in the team so they can continue to build out more amazing games that delight sports fans around the world.” 

Metalhead Software is best known for the Super Mega Baseball franchise which has released three games since the title’s inception. The latest installment, Super Mega Baseball 3, was released in May of 2020.
