“PUBG Mobile” In India Re-Branding Itself As “Battlegrounds Mobile India”

On May 6th, Krafton, the South Korean company behind PUBG, announced PUBG Mobile will be relaunching in India as Battlegrounds Mobile India. Krafton said that Battlegrounds Mobile India will now serve as the primary game for the company in the Indian esports market.

The new battle royale game claims to bring a premium, AAA multiplayer gaming experience to users alongside exclusive, in-game events. Battlegrounds Mobile India will debut with its own esports ecosystem that will feature tournaments and leagues. Additionally, Krafton released a video teaser of the new game that suggests similarities with PUBG Mobile.

“Krafton will collaborate with partners to build an esports ecosystem while bringing in-game content regularly, starting with a series of India-specific in-game events at launch, to be announced later,” the company said in a press release.

The Indian government recently banned PUBG Mobile along with 117 other games that have some sort of relationship with China. After attempting to convince the government to lift the ban on PUBG Mobile, it appears Krafton ultimately decided to go with a different game in the massive Indian market.
