Melco Teaming Up With Tencent To Put On Esports Event

Melco Resorts & Entertainment recently announced it had partnered with Chinese technology giant Tencent. As a result of the deal, the two organizations will work together to organize the World University Cyber League 2021, an esports event that will “promote the government’s efforts towards economic diversification.”

The World University Cyber League 2021 will be a multi-title esports event. The series is expected to feature several popular titles including League of Legends, Honor of Kings, and Clash Royale.

“We collaborated with CCTV late last year to host the GBA Sim Racing Grand Prix 2020 – The National Final for the first time in Macau at City of Dreams, drawing the attention of eSports fans from across the country,” said Melco director Clarence Chung. “We are pleased to now co-organize the World University Cyber League 2021 – Finals with Tencent Sports and look forward to bringing another wonderful international eSports event to the city to support Macau’s economic diversification.”

The WCL will be jointly held in Macau and Hengqin. This comes as part of a contractual obligation that says the event must abide by the “one game, two places” model.
