The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) is cracking down on esports events in the Philippines that are not being regulated by a governing body. During a monthly press conference on June 11th, the organization explained that esports tournaments must be regulated by the GAB if the event has a monetary prize.
The GAB recently brought attention to several esports events that were hosted in the country without a permit. This included The Annihilation by PNEL, Cosco Esports by Impetus Events Team, and the Puregold Esports Live tournament.
The GAB said other competitions, relating to titles like Mobile Legends, Dota 2, and VALORANT, have complied with the governing body’s regulations. Other upcoming tournaments, like the Predator Esports Circuit, have received GAB approval as well.
