EA Says Company Was Breached By Hackers

According to Electronic Arts Inc., hackers stole valuable information from the company on June 10th. News of the hack was first reported by Vice.

According to Vice, the group of hackers, who reportedly stole 780 GB of information, broke into the company by tricking an employee on the communications platform Slack to provide the hackers with “a login token”. Once in the company, the group of hackers reportedly stole the source code for FIFA 21 as well as the source code for the Frostbite engine that powers games like Battlefield.

“We are investigating a recent incident of intrusion into our network where a limited amount of game source code and related tools were stolen,” an EA spokesperson said in a statement.

At the time of the hack, EA said no player data was stolen during the security breach.
