An article was recently published on Game Rant entitled “IKEA’s Various Video game Crossovers”. In this piece, Martin Docherty highlights some of the moves made by IKEA to enter the gaming market, including a collaboration with Mario Party, VR game development, and gaming chair agreements.
IKEA recently entered into a partnership with Tencent and Nintendo. The deal saw IKEA set up Mario Party-themed showrooms across China to promote the franchise’s newest game.
The organization is also developing virtual reality games. Home Improvisation: Furniture Sandbox is an unofficial VR IKEA experience. The game allows users to create furniture designs and builds in a virtual world without having to follow instructions. The company is also working on a survival horror VR game called SCP (Secure, Contain, Protect).
IKEA has created gaming chairs and furniture, too. The company has developed products through partnerships with Animal Crossing: New Horizons and ASUS’ Republic of Gamers.
The Profit‘s Take:
IKEA has done a better job than most experimenting in the gaming field in a lot of different ways. This should pay off for them long-term.
