The creators of the Netflix series American Vandal recently agreed to a partnership with Viacom. As a result of this deal, the showrunners announced they will be producing an esports mockumentary television series.
The show is expected to be written by Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, who had previously served as the producers for American Vandal. The fake documentary will tell the story of a professional League of Legends team that never wins the LOL world championship despite coming close numerous times.
“PLAYERS is a comedic documentary-style series that follows a fictional pro League of Legends esports team as they pursue their first championship after years of close calls and heartache,” a press release reads. “To win it all, they will need their prodigy, a 17-year-old rookie, and their 27-year-old veteran to put their egos aside and work together.”
PLAYERS will be streaming exclusively on Paramount+. At this time, a release date for the series has not yet been revealed.
