Global Esports Executive Summit Held In South Korea

The sixth annual Global Esports Executive Summit was held in Busan, South Korea from August 31 to September 1. Included amongst the many big-name speakers was Vlad Marinescu, President of The International Esports Federation (IESF), the keynote speaker for “fostering growing relationships.”

The topic of fostering growing relationships touched on ways in which the esports ecosystem and traditional sports industries can find areas of common ground. Also, leading panel discussions for the subject were David Shin (business development manager and project manager at the Korea Esports Association), Alex Inglot (commissioner of ESL Pro League), Rayneet Gill (founder of New Horizons Alliance), Sean Zhang (chief executive of Talon Esports), and Rodrigo Quesada (business development director for Cedar Group).

The first day of the Summit included the topics like “the next level of esports” and “diversity and inclusion in esports.” The next level of esports seminar was led by keynote speaker Pilsung Lee, the chief executive of Sandbox Network and Sandbox Gaming. It focused on the opportunity to contribute to the local youth industry through local esports team franchising. The panel discussion also examined how the industry has been impacted by COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the diversity and inclusion seminar, led by Jenn Mac (director of global partnerships for Women in Games International), highlighted the importance of global expansion, diversifying brand partnerships, and encouraging participation across all borders, cultures, races, religions, and genders. IESF board member and director of global programs, Ido Brosh, also spoke for a special session on the importance of esports associations.
