According to a recent blog post from video game industry insiders, Sega has scrapped plans for a sequel to the company’s hit game Sonic Mania. Based on insights from an individual that goes by the name “Zippo”, the game was reportedly canceled due to “a clash of some sort” between Evening Star Studios and Sega.
“From all accounts, they were willing and ready for more classic Sonic adventures, but of course, as the story goes, the blame for all of this is going to SEGA of America management as they decided to be, let’s say… ‘extremely unreasonable’, ultimately nixing the project,” the blog post reads. “This was a breakup, and there’s no getting around it. If you’re like us, and you wanted a new 2D classic styled game, you are just shit out of luck, and it didn’t have to be this way. It’s a truly shitty situation all around.”
Sonic Mania is a platform title that was launched by Sega in 2017. The game is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and supported Microsoft Windows devices.
