The American-based gaming company Supersocial recently announced the closing of a $5.2 million funding round. This money will reportedly be used to develop games on the Roblox platform as well as “anything else that calls itself a metaverse.”
The funding round was led by Initial Capital. Contributions also came from Griffin Gaming Partners, Warner Music Group, Time Ventures, LightShed Ventures, Powerhouse Capital, Aream & Co., and unnamed angel investors.
“We have been steadily growing several products and experiences that are going to be launched on the Roblox platform,” said Supersocial CEO Yonatan Raz-Fridman in an interview with VentureBeat. “This funding is the first fuel to enable us to deliver on our ambition of building a group of talented creators. We want to build the most iconic games and experiences for the metaverse starting on the Roblox platform.”
Supersocial is a Columbus, Ohio-based gaming organization with 24 full-time employees. The game development studio is getting ready to release its upcoming game Ghostopia on Roblox
The Profit‘s Take:
There’s not much of a story here. However, it is noteworthy that they are raising over $5 million to develop games for a specific platform like Roblox that they are locked into. This says a lot about the potential for Roblox long-term. You can compare it to an app store, to be honest. Being the platform/gateway/sandbox is a good business.
