Epic Games has once again launched a collaboration with a luxury fashion brand. It was recently announced that a partnership had been created between Fortnite and the French clothing company Moncler.
On November 19th, Epic Games released a blog post announcing the new partnership was developed to further expand Fortnite‘s fashion catalog. This collaboration, which has been dubbed the “Moncler Classic Set”, comes with two outfits inspired by designer Matthew Williams. These cosmetics will be available as single-color or reactive skins. This partnership will also see the classic Fortnite pickaxe, glider, and back bling items styled as umbrellas.
“Given Moncler’s roots in culture, dedication to collaborations through the Moncler Genius program, and the recent 6 MONCLER 1017 ALYX 9SM collection’s theme of light and dark, we felt there was a lot to work with between both brands,” Emily Levy, Senior Manager of Partnerships at Epic Games, told HYPEBEAST.
The Moncler outfits, accessories, and loading screens are now available. These products went live in the game at 7:00 PM EST on November 20th.
The Profit‘s Take:
I look at this as Moncler’s attempt to enter the metaverse. Although, I do worry about the fatigue around these activations. All of these things feel the same. I didn’t even have to log into Fortnite to guess what the products are that would be offered as a result of this collaboration. They’re just putting a new coat of paint on the same thing over and over again. At some point, I think this gets old. I am surprised we’re not seeing MORE integration between the digital and real world. Let me get a real-life product from Moncler if I purchase these collaborative products in the game. We’ve reached maximum collaboration hype. When Chanel and Louis Vuitton do it, it’s cool. Now, we are going pretty far down the line to find a cool collab. It just feels like Epic is trying to churn these things out. It’s a win-win for both sides, and that’s how it was probably pitched. I like it from a business perspective, but this fits Epic’s MO of milking things until they’re no longer interesting. Fortnite is going to be doing these types of activations for the next ten years, and I applaud them for that.
