Microsoft recently filed a patent for “optimizing content layout on a foldable device.” According to GameRant, this filing implies “Microsoft is at least considering a foldable device… there’s even mention of using the patent’s technology in gaming devices.”
The patent features several ideas for how to display a user interface on a foldable device. This includes a primary display section if other parts of the product are bent or unusable. It also focuses on “assigning a ‘relocation score’ to UI components.” This score could reportedly be altered through changes in screen configuration, icon size, etc.
Additionally, the patent explains the idea behind the technical apparatus, breaking down the hardware configuration needed to create a foldable device. On top of that, examples of other handheld computing devices (like smartphones, tablets, and AR/VR items) are listed in the filing.
At this time, Microsoft has not made any official announcements regarding this product or patent filing.
