On February 1st, Spire Animation Studios announced the company raised $20 million in a recent funding round. Epic Games contributed a major amount of money to Spire which will help the organization accelerate its video animation process while making improvements to several departments.
This investment will see Epic Games join Spire’s Board of Directors. Moreover, this deal will give Spire access to Epic’s Unreal Engine. This asset will be key as the organization aims to create an animation pipeline that streamlines the process of creating cinematic digital worlds.
“We thought, not only would the efficiencies be super valuable to a company like ours, but just the more intimate filmmaking experience would allow us to bring in talent from other media,” said Spire’s Co-Founder, Brad Lewis. “We could break away from that assembly line-like approach to producing feature animation. The great thing about this partnership is we’ve got parallel interests in the end tool development with Epic. We are committed to it in the long term.”
Spire Animation Studios is an organization that aims to create animated films for the metaverse. The company’s first two projects (Trouble and Century Goddess) are currently in production but do not have confirmed release dates.
