On February 9th, Ball State University announced it had agreed to a partnership with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL). This deal aims to provide meaningful career and education opportunities to members of Ball State’s esports program.
This partnership will see the establishment of the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Scholarship, which will reward two members of Ball State’s varsity esports team with $5,000 scholarships that run from 2022 to 2026. Moreover, Ball State esports athletes will have the chance to participate in community events that promote both gaming and sim-racing.
“I am grateful to Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for its commitment to the success of our students, and I am grateful to Mr. Letterman for his continued engagement with our University,” said Ball State University President Geoffrey Mearns. “It is exciting to celebrate our partnership with RLL by hosting an elite racing team on our campus in a state where racing is an integral part of our culture.”
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing is an auto racing team that was established in 1991. The organization is currently owned by Bobby Rahal, Mike Lanigan, and TV legend David Letterman, who graduated from Ball State in 1969.
Ball State University is a public research institute based in Muncie, Indiana. As of the 2018-19 academic year, there were over 15,600 students enrolled at the school.
