McDonald’s Restaurants In Florida Provide Scholarships To Black Collegiate Gaming Association

To honor black history month, local McDonald’s owners in Florida recently gave out several scholarships to video game and esports organizations based on college campuses as a show of support for the Black Collegiate Gaming Association. These scholarships were handed out during the virtual version of the BCGA’s annual summit, Black College Con, which was held on February 26th.

Black College Con looks to introduce new career opportunities in the gaming industry to interested students while also honoring the contributions made to video games by black gamers. This event, which was live-streamed on Twitch, featured professional networking seminars and industry breakout sessions while connecting black college students across the country with black business leaders from the gaming field.

“This is the first time that platforms like this have been held in the gaming industry,” said Keshia Walker, the Founder of the BCGA. “Black college students, for the first time, will have the opportunity to see and network with successful leaders in the industry and participate in fun gaming competitions for scholarships and prizes. They will also learn about a variety of career opportunities that can change the trajectories of their lives.”

Registration for the event was free to all participating schools and students. The virtual event took place on February 26th while the in-person event will be held in Birmingham, Alabama on March 12th, 2022.
