Nintendo announced this month that it had purchased the adjacent lot next to its office space in Kyoto for $40 million and that it plans to use the new property to expand its headquarters.
The new area will be home to the headquarters’ second development building, of which the primary function will be to strengthen its research and development. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2027.
This is an exciting development and shows Nintendo’s push to continue creating new and exciting hardware. It was nearly a decade ago, in 2013, that Nintendo announced it would merge its handheld and console divisions within its Tokyo HQ, ultimately leading to the development and release of the Nintendo Switch in 2017.
