Apple Removing App Store Apps That Haven’t Been Updated In Over Two Years

It sounds like Apple will be getting rid of many games and applications from its App Store. Based on a recently screenshotted email from Apple that was sent out to developers, the company is planning on removing apps from the App Store, that haven’t been updated “in a significant amount of time.”

According to the screenshotted email and The Verge, app and game developers have 30 days to update their applications before they are removed from the App Store. Unfortunately, a timestamp was not included in the screenshotted email, so it is not exactly clear when Apple first submitted this post. Therefore, we don’t know when the first games are expected to be removed from the app store.

The email states that apps can remain on the app store if an official review is submitted to Apple over the next 30 days. However, these types of apps will be removed from Apple’s App Store if a review is not submitted during that period.

This decision comes as part of Apple’s App Store Improvement initiatives which aim to make the marketplace easier to navigate. The Verge reached out to a request for comment from Apple, but the company has not yet at this time.

The good news is that any previously downloaded apps will remain on users’ devices, so at least Apple won’t be removing things retroactively. Either way, it’s clear that Apple is trying to make big changes to the mobile gaming industry.
