Razer Co-Founder, Robert Krakoff, Dead At 81

The video game industry has lost an icon. On April 26th, Robert “Razerguy” Krakoff passed away at the age of 81. Krakoff was most famous for co-founding the gaming hardware company Razer and serving as the organization’s president for a number of years.

In 1999, Robert Krakoff famously invented the world’s first gaming mouse, the Razer Boomslang. This device not only launched a video game empire but it was also partially responsible for jumpstarting the incredibly lucrative gaming peripheral industry that we know today.

With every Razer product purchased, Krakoff would include a short personal note with the device. He also listed his email address at the bottom of these notes taking time to respond to those that would reach out to him. He would even sometimes agree to sit down interviews with lesser-known journalists that reached out to him through that email address.

While serving as the President of Razer, he founded another company called MindFX Science, which was an organization that focused on the production of energy drinks and health supplements. Being healthy was incredibly important to Krakoff who actually played for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams for five years in the 1960s.

Beyond that, he also authored dozens of books under the pen name RM Krakoff.

Let’s all take a moment and remember a man who forever changed the landscape of the gaming industry. Thank you for everything Robert Krakoff.
