Sony Group Corp. recently announced its plans to expand its presence in the metaverse, drawing on its expertise in gaming and music.
“The metaverse is simultaneously a social environment, as well as a live networking space where gaming, music, films and anime intersect,” said Kenichiro Yoshida, CEO of Sony Group Corp.
The Japanese entertainment giant’s plans should come as no surprise to many. In April, the company invested $1 billion in Epic Games as part of its move into the virtual space, and allegedly has discussed some big metaverse plans in the works for when its $3.6 billion acquisition of developer Bungie is finalized.
