BGMI Ban In India Postpones Major Tournament

Thanks to the India’s recent ban on Krafton’s flagship game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), one of the top major tournaments, Esports Premier League Season 2, has been postponed indefinitely. The BGMI app was first removed from Google Play Store and Apple Store on July 28th.

“This is an unfortunate situation for all the esports enthusiasts, and also a huge setback for India Today Gaming, at this stage of the tournament,” read a statement from the tournament organizers. The statement further stated that the entities concerned will evaluate and pursue the matter in accordance with the directions issued by the Government of India.

The organizers also made clear that they intend to renew the ESPL from the stage they were leaving at now, and that they selected finalist team will again be invited to participate in the Finals. The organizers also expressed their gratitude to all tournament participants and the gaming community spread across the country for supporting the competition.
