PlayStation 5 Posting Big Sales Numbers Despite Global Chip Shortage

Sony posted its financial results for the fiscal year ended June 31st, which revealed that the company has shipped 21.7 million PlayStation 5 units worldwide. According to the report, a total of 2.4 million PS5 units were shipped during the three months ended June 31st, up 0.1 million from the 2.3 shipped during the same period the previous fiscal year.  

The report also touched upon the success of PlayStation Plus, which currently has 47.3 million subscribers as of June 31st, up one million from the same period the previous fiscal year.

PS5 and PS4 software combined to sell 47.1 million units in the first quarter of fiscal year 2022, down 16.5 million from the software sold during the same period the prior fiscal year. 6.4 of those units sold were first-party titles, down 4.1 million from the 10.5 sold during the same period last year. Additionally 79% of said software sales were full game software digital downloads, in contrast to the 71% the previous fiscal year.
