Benedict College, a historically black college and university in South Carolina, recently became the first HBCU to launch an esports program. this includes a physical gaming room at the school as well as a degree program focusing on esports.
This comes as part of a recent partnership between the school and Blaze Fire Games. Moreover, Blaze Fire will start an esports club at the school to host Madden and NCAA College Football tournaments.
“In keeping with Benedict’s strategic plan to offer transformational learning experiences, our innovative Esports Administration curriculum is designed to prepare students to create new applications and to engage in all facets of the industry,” said Dr. Janeen Witty, Benedict College Vice President of Academic Affairs, to WIS News 10.
Based in Columbia, South Carolina, Benedict College was founded in 1870. This private school has roughly 2,000 students.
