Two Studios Accuse PQube Games Of Withholding Money From Them

Two Indonesian game development studios have accused PQube Games of claiming a diversity grant on their behalf and then withholding the money it received from them. As a result, the two organizations announced that their upcoming game, A Space for the Unbound, would be “delayed until further notice” as the studios look to find a new publisher for the console version of the game.

According to Video Games Chronicle, Toge Productions and Mojiken Studio agreed to a deal that would see PQube handle the console publishing of the game. However, Toge and Mojiken are alleging that PQube used the fact that the companies are located in Indonesia to obtain money from a diversity fund. After that, the studios claimed that PQube did not pass along the money to them and that PQube “intentionally withheld information about the grant and used it as a leverage for their own commercial gain.”

“We have honored all obligations of our publishing agreement and have supported Toge Productions at every stage of product development throughout their delays and difficulties,” PQube said in a statement made to Video games Chronicle in response to these allegations. “This support has included offering significant further funding, over and above grant funding, to support development, porting, and marketing. Toge Productions have sought for some time to unilaterally enforce unreasonable revised terms to our agreement and it is disappointing that, as a result of not achieving that and despite PQube’s significant efforts to accommodate this, they have sought to deal with the matter in this way. We will respond through the appropriate channels.”

A Space for the Unbound was originally announced in 2020. The adventure game set in the 1990s in rural Indonesia will be available on Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switches, and Steam when it is released.
