These Gaming Giants Want A Piece Of The Elden Ring Action

It sounds like two major gaming companies are impressed with FromSoftware. On August 31st, it was announced that units of both Tencent and Sony were planning on acquiring minority stakes in FromSoftware Inc, the publishing company behind the hit Elden Ring.

After the $236 million deal is complete, Tencent will hold a 16.25 % stake in FromSoftware while Sony will acquire a 14.09% stake in the company. As a result, publishing giant Kadokawa will retain 69.66% of the company, meaning it will still be the majority shareholder of FromSoftware.

“The investment shows that Tencent is still active in expanding their footprint outside China in big ways,” said Serkan Toto, the founder of the Kantan Games consultancy, who described FromSoftware as a “commercial and creative powerhouse.”

Prior to this, both Sony and Tencent already held stakes in Kadokawa itself.
