Here’s Who Has Been Confirmed For The Gran Turismo Movie

According to a recently released exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, David Harbour, or as he is known in Stranger Things, Jim Hopper, has agreed to star in the upcoming Gran Turismo feature film adaptation that is being produced by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions. Beyond that, it was also revealed that Orlando Bloom would be joining the cast.

At this time, it is believed that David Harbour will be playing the role of a retired racer that teaches the main character how to drive. Bloom will be starring as a marketing exec with a passion for motorsports.

Neill Blomkamp, the famous director responsible for District 9, has signed on to direct the movie. Meanwhile, the film’s script is being written by a pair of industry veterans: American Sniper’s Jason Hall and King Richard’s Zach Baylin.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this upcoming project is based on the wish-fulfilling true story of a teenage Gran Turismo player that uses their gaming skills to win a series of Nissan competitions. After impressing in these gaming events, the protagonist eventually becomes a professional racecar driver.

And don’t worry about the movie staying true to the video game itself, creator Kazunori Yamauchi has been brought onto the project to serve as an executive producer. Other producers attached to the film include Doug Belgrad and Dana Brunetti alongside PlayStation Production’s Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan.

The Gran Turismo movie, which is currently just being called Turismo, is scheduled to hit theaters on August 11th, 2023.
