Genshin Impact has quickly emerged as one of the most beloved video games in the world. Since its September 2020 release, the game has recorded over 60 million players as of this past August along with $3 billion in consumer chest revenue. Now, the game is looking to build on that success by creating an anime TV show.
The anime show comes as part of a collaboration with development company miHoYo and the animation studio Ufotable. Ufotable is responsible for creating the incredibly popular anime show Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
At this time, the project is still in its early development phases. However, the two sides did unveil a title card to coincide with a recently released teaser trailer for the show.
We don’t have a ton of information about the show. The release date is still not known. But, we can confirm that beloved characters like Aether, Lumine, and Paimon are expected to show up in the series. On top of that, more characters will likely be revealed over the coming weeks and months.
The Profit‘s Take:
The gaming numbers alone amaze me. It’ll be interesting to see how 60 million players and $3 billion translates to TV show success. There is such a pent-up demand for anything anime, especially with an IP like Genshin Impact. This should be a smash hit. I’m surprised this didn’t happen sooner.
