Australia Joins The NBA 2K League

On October 6th, the NBA 2K League announced a partnership with Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL). This $25 million deal will see the NBL launch the 25th NBA 2K League team, NBL Oz Gaming. This also marks the first time an Australian esports org has permanently joined a global esports league.

“This is another historic day as we welcome Australia’s premier basketball league to the NBA 2K League family,” said Brendan Donohue, the NBA 2K League President, in a statement. “The NBL has a demonstrated track record of not only transforming their league but also growing a fanbase in new and creative ways. The NBL is the ideal partner to help the NBA 2K League do the same in Australia, where basketball and 2K are incredibly popular and we’re thrilled that NBL Oz Gaming will represent Australia in the NBA 2K League for years to come.”

NBL Oz Gaming is the third expansion team to come from outside North America. The Gen.G Tigers joined the league in 2021 followed by Mexico City’s DUX Infinitos in 2022. The other 22 squads are all affiliated with NBA teams.

NBL Oz Gaming will take part in the NBA 2K League Expansion Draft next month. All events will be viewed on Twitch and YouTube.
