CD Projekt Has A Bunch Of New Games In The Works

On October 4th, CD Projekt announced a leadership change that will see the organization’s co-founder step down from his role as joint CEO of the company. To coincide with this announcement, CDP revealed it has begun working on several new titles set in The Witcher and Cyberpunk universes.

In a Twitter thread, CD Projekt revealed that it is working on three new Witcher games. Project Polaris will be the first of these games. This will supposedly mark the beginning of a new trilogy based on The Witcher. CDP is reportedly hoping to release the other two games in the trilogy within six years after the launch of Project Polaris.

The next game of the three is currently called Project Sirius. Unlike other past Witcher games, Sirius will offer multiplayer gaming alongside single-player game modes.

Project Canis Majoris will be the last game in the trilogy. It has been described as a “full-fledged Witcher game separate to the new Witcher saga.”

On top of that, Cyberpunk will also be getting a new game. Project Orion will reportedly be a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

CDP also announced a fifth, entirely new game. Dubbed Project Hadar, this will be the company’s first original IP.

These announcements did wonders for CDP’s stock price. Shares in the company rose by 9% the morning after these games were announced.

The Profit‘s Take:

All kinds of game announcements from the company that took seven years to make their last title. Are we actually going to get five games or is this just PR to boost the company’s stock price? This brings new risk. Every quarter, analysts and investors will be asking, “what’s going on with your new projects?” And, all they’ll be able to say is something like “we made six more character models.” This could take years to finish. It just feels like these announcements are being made too soon. That’s always been my fear with CD Projekt. If they’re so upfront with what they’re doing, then there’s a greater chance of disappointment. Making three Witcher games is ambitious, but I think there’s a demand for that IP. Either way, it sounds like we’ll be waiting a while.
