Introducing You To Canada’s First Video Game Union

On September 20th, members of Anemone Hug Interactive announced that they had come together to form the first video game union in Canada. This organization will be the newest member of the Canadian Animation Guild, IATSE Local 938.

“These workers have found a home in the IATSE and game workers across Canada should use their success as inspiration to form unions at their own workplaces,” said the IATSE’s International president, Matthew D. Loeb. “By working together, game workers can have more control of their working conditions and can address the issues that have been plaguing this industry for years.”

2022 has been a great year for unions in the gaming industry. In April, Australia welcomed its first gaming industry union. Then, in May, Raven Software, a subsidiary of Activision-Blizzard, formed the first major video game union in the United States.
