Electronic Arts Replacing Its Origin PC Game Launcher

On October 7th, Electronic Arts announced it would be introducing the EA App as a new desktop client for PC users. The goal is for this application to fully replace the Origin platform that was launched over ten years ago.

“For over ten years we’ve welcomed millions of players into our Origin platform, we’ve listened to your feedback and acknowledge the limitations of this platform in a quickly evolving entertainment landscape,” reads a blog post from EA. “So, we set out to build EA’s next-generation PC game platform – a faster, more reliable, and more streamlined gaming experience – the best possible place for you to experience EA’s incredible games, services, and content.”

EA is calling its new app the “fastest and lightest PC client to date.” The EA App was created to focus more on social gaming while allowing players to import friend lists from other platforms like Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation.

The EA App is only available for PC players at this time. Mac users will still have to use the Origin platform to launch games, but it is believed that the EA App will eventually be offered on those devices as well.
