Square Enix Montréal recently announced it had been rebranded as Studio Onoma following the organization’s acquisition by Embracer Group. The company said this new identity will serve as “an umbrella to multiple products, programs, and initiatives.”
“We have built the Onoma brand to be flexible to see us into the future, connect with multiple audiences, and not hinder us from expanding with the market,” reads the Studio Onoma website. “Our name and look might have changed but we are still us: a studio that empowers creativity and innovation and always puts people before products. (Just in a new and improved version!).”
Studio Onoma was originally founded as Square Enix Montréal in 2011 as a traditional video game development studio before pivoting to mobile titles in 2013. Some of the organization’s most famous games include Lara Croft Go, Hitman Go, and Hitman Sniper.
