How Many People Use Xbox Cloud Gaming?

During a recently held Q1 2023 earnings call, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that over 20 million people have streamed video games using Xbox Cloud Gaming. That is twice the amount of users that Xbox originally reported back in April of this year.

One factor that reportedly impacted this growth was Microsoft’s partnership with Epic Games which brought Fortnite to the company’s cloud gaming platform. As The Verge‘s Tom Warren puts it, that partnership “boosted Xbox Cloud Gaming, particularly because it’s the only game that’s available free via the service and doesn’t require an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.”

Launched in September 2020, xCloud was originally made available for beta testing before the service was later offered to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers for free. At this time, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription has a starting price of roughly $15.
