Apple Exec Leaves Company For Roblox

One of the most respected members of Apple is jumping ship. John Stauffer is reportedly leaving Apple for Roblox where he will serve as the VP of Engineering. In this role, he will report directly to CTO Daniel Sturman.

“The Roblox Engine is the foundation to what makes Roblox the platform that it is today for tens of millions of people from around the world who come to create, play, explore, learn, and connect in immersive digital experiences,” Stauffer said. “I’m thrilled to join this talented team of engineers, and look forward to pushing the limits of what’s possible with the Roblox Engine as we help usher in the metaverse.”

Based on an exclusive report from Axios, Roblox began its search for an exec to lead its engine team about a year ago. Sturman claims that they talked to hundreds of people before eventually landing on Stauffer.

“John got to see Apple grow from a much smaller company,” Sturman said. “That’s a path we hope/want/expect to be on.”

Before joining Roblox, John Stauffer worked for Apple for 23 years, most recently leading the organization’s Interactive Media Group. During his tenure, he helped introduce key Apple features like CarPlay, Group FaceTime, and AirPlay.
