On April 8th, China announced a slew of new measures to support economic and social growth in Hainan, an island province in the southern part of the country. These measures will support the growth of several industries, including the gaming and esports market.
The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said officials will support Hainan by helping build charging stations and battery swapping facilities across the island for autonomous cars. The country will also aid Hainan in the development of online sales for prescription drugs. The government will also step up support to build the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site into a “world-class” site for commercial spacecraft.
In June of 2020, China gave the status of a “free trade port” to Hainan, which will hopefully be completed by 2035. These projects will provide an offshore center of trade and finance to streamline the flow of commodities, capital, and talent into and out of the province.
