Huya Signs Media Rights Deal For Chinese League Of Legends Operator

Huya, a Chinese live-streaming platform, recently signed a media rights deal with Chinese League of Legends operator TJ Sports. The broadcasting rights deal is reportedly for five years and is expected to cost Huya $310 million.

According to The Esports Observer‘s sources, Huya can also produce promotional videos and written content based on TJ Sports-authorized League of Legends resources.

Huya is a video game publishing company founded in August of 2016. It is a subsidiary of its parent company Tencent.

The Profit‘s Take:

Chinese esports media rights are a hot topic recently. Bilibili seemed to be the only platform interested in acquiring them, but here we have 2 Tencent companies doing a deal. Tencent’s ownership of Riot (and many other studios) as well as the major streaming platforms in China give them a definite advantage should they want to corner the market on esports media rights.
